Testing laboratory

Testing lab is aimed to the electrochemical characterization of any type of products (i.e. battery materials, batteries, super-capacitors, fuel cells, etc.) and chemistries.

Testing equipment are useful for a wide range of applications such as:

Maccor Battery Tester - 192 channels

The electrochemical lab is also equipped with a Series 4000 model battery tester. It is fully equipped with 192 channels; 166 for coin cell and 26 cables.

Specifications:

  • Voltage Ranges: available up to 180 V maximum
  • Voltage Accuracy: 0.02% of full scale voltage
  • Current Ranges: Single Current Range 1 mA to 2000 A; Four Current Ranges: 150 µA, 5 mA, 150 mA, 5A
  • Current Accuracy: 0.02% of full scale current on 5 Amp Multi-range channels
  • Current Accuracy: 0.05% of full scale current on all other channels
  • Time Resolution: 10 mS standard, with 5 mS and 1 mS as an option
  • Minimum Pulse width: 100 µS
  • Rise Time: <500 µS standard in constant current modes, 100 µS or 20 µS optional
  • Data Recording Rate: 200 data points per second per system standard

BIOLOGIC - 6 X BIOLOGIC VMP3

Our lab is equipped with six VMP3 potentiostat chassis with a total of:

  • 64 normal channels
  • 28 EIS channels
  • 5 low I channels
  • 3 high I channels

Multichannel potentiostats (with PITT protocol) / galvanostats (with GITT protocol) with low current options, amplifiers and impedance measurement. The system are composed by an integrated sine wave generator and frequency response analyzer built onto the plug-in potentiostat module. These equipments allow working with the following techniques:


- Voltammetric techniques: OCV,CV, CVA, CA, CP, SV, Potencio /Galvano Dynamics.
- Pulsed techniques: DPV, DNPV, SWW, DPA, NPV.
- Corrosion: Linear and cyclic polarization, generalised corrosion, pitting, ZRA y ZVC.
- Impedance spectroscopy: GEIS, PEIS, SGEIS, SPEIS (Mott - Schotty.
- Technique builder:Modular, Potencio / Galvano, Loop, Trigger in/out, Wait.
- Batteries and fuel cell testing:GCPL (1 to 5), PCGA, CPW, APG.
- PEM Stack:Polarization, PEIS, GEIS.

Climatic Chamber - VOTSCH 7400

The climatic chamber (model VT7004) is appropriate to test cells at a constant temperature when it is critical in the performance and also to analize the effect of the temperature.

BCs in Physical Chemistry from University of Basque Country, located in Leioa, in 2007.

Specialization and technological development grant (Iñaki Goenaga): "Tubular metal supported solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology development for generation of electricity and domestic heat" at Ikerlan. (October 2007- October 2009)

Learning about metallic and ceramic materials (preparation of slurries, rheological studies, deposition of ceramics layers with different techniques such as tape casting, dip coating, manual and automatic spray, sintering techniques with controlled atmospheres)

Electrochemical characterization of fuel cells through impedance spectroscopy, voltage-current measurements, materials conductivity measurements with four point technique

Structural characterization with SEM

 Researcher in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells at Ikerlan (from October 2009 until December 2011). The work carried out involved the following activities:

Participating in an international project of technology transfer. Responsible for the development of the technical aspects of the project.

Participation in projects on several subjects related to the characterization of materials and fuel cell technology optimization

I am now working at CIC Energigune since January 2012 assisting different research projects related to energy storage materials.
