SUPERCAPACITORS

The supercapacitors research line is focused on:

- Optimizing nanoporous electrode materials from inexpensive renewable sources;

- Maximizing volumetric capacitance by adjusting synthesis conditions;

- Nanoporous carbon electrode materials as the most viable solution for real life applications;

- Pseudocapacitive inorganic materials, both model systems (thin films) and bulk powdered electrodes.

- Ultimate goal - outperforming nanoporous carbons in terms of capacitance values.

Daniel Carriazo obtained his degree in chemistry in 2003 from the University of Salamanca including a course abroad at the University of Bristol (UK) where he performed his bachelor thesis in the Centre for the Organized Matter Chemistry. In 2008 he obtained his PhD from the University of Salamanca working at the Inorganic Chemistry department on the immobilization of polyoxometalates within layered double hydroxides and/or porous oxides for catalytic applications under the supervision of Prof. V. Rives and Prof. C. Martín.

In 2009 he joined to the Bioinspired Materials group at the ICMM-CSIC leaded by Dr. Francisco del Monte as a "Juan de la Cierva" postdoctoral fellow.  In 2011 he was visiting fellow in the Multifunctional Materials group headed by Prof. Markus Niederberger at the ETH-Zürich (Switzerland). In 2012 returned to the Institute of Materials Science of Madrid (CSIC) with a "JAE-Doc" postdoctoral fellowship.

Since February 2014 he is an Ikerbasque Research Fellow at the CIC EnergiGUNE. His current scientific interest is focused on the synthesis of carbons with tailored porosity and carbonaceous-metal oxide composite materials with potential application as electrodes for energy storage devices.
